Sweet Sixteen

16 Urban/Suburban Miles
(Queue Sheet, Map, and Elevation Profile at Bottom of Page)

A nice flowerbed on the East Side, just before the official start of the ride.  ;-)

Heading west on Broadway, near Camino Seco, at the beginning of the Sweet Sixteen ride.
The wide lane on Broadway is enjoyed by cyclists and utilized by Suntran's Bus Number 8.

Coffee Exchange at Broadway just west of Camino Seco.
Great coffee drinks and outdoor seating. Please support local business.

Wildflowers near Wilmot on Broadway.

Some folks waiting for the Number 8, just west of Wilmot.

A Tucson historical landmark - the Lucky Wishbone sign on Broadway and Swan.
Here's a link to some WB history:http://www.luckywishbone.com/history.html

Cafe Ramey, located on the northeast corner of Pima and Swan.
There are also offices here, including congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' headquarters.
There is outdoor seating and the menu is excellent. Plus the prices are good.
This is my favorite breakfast spot in all of Tucson.

Here are Josh and his trusty friend, Sassy Bear. I saw them crossing Pima at Swan and
Josh graciously allowed me to take their picture. Thank you Josh! Sassy Bear sure is a hard worker!

Pima is a great East/West cycling cycling route, as there is not nearly as much traffic as on Broadway, Speedway, or Grant.
And Pima boasts the internationally famous Boot Bunkhouse!

Coming off of Pima and heading on to Tanque Verde.
After turning here there is a great downhill which is also part of a Bus Lane, so it's nice and wide.
Awesome chance to quickly get up to about 25 mph.

Crossing over the Pantano Wash on Tanque Verde.
This is a view of the wash from atop the bridge. It's bone dry now, but water flows during monsoon season.
About five miles north of here, this wash meets up with the Rillito River.

Udall Park is on Tanque Verde. Lots of GABA rides start and finish here. Find a ride at: http://bikegaba.org
Udall Park has some nice shady spots, perfect for a picnic.

St. Piux X church is on the corner of Pio Decimo and Pima.
Abraham Marcor, the music director, was nominated for a Grammy award in 2004
for his work with Vince Redhouse on "Indian Summer".

Riding on Pima, after having just crossed over Pantano. Nice view of the Rincon Mountains.

Sahuaro High School, on Camino Seco between Speedway and Broadway.
We're almost back to the starting point of this route.

Start out at NW corner of Broadway and Camino Seco
